Attendance.

Silent Reading of PERSONAL novels (not the Outsiders) – 15 to 20 min

Check photocopying for below activity: I have already emailed your first block EA Ms. Evans the worksheet below to photocopy during Eng 11. 

Next - Students - Create a Vocab List for the the Outsiders - first word below- students please copy the below definition into your new Vocab List - Outsiders.

Stereotype:
A stereotype is a thought that may be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things,[1] but that belief may or may not accurately reflect reality

Next - we have not started The Outsiders just yet - however, today students will completeThe Outsiders - Book Starter Sheet – Individual Work 20 min. 

Click HERE for the worksheets - 2 pages - you can photocopy to 1 page - back to front.

*You will need to photocopy a class set of the above Outsiders Book Starter Sheet - one for each student - their sheets to stay in their binders.

Post completion of the 2 worksheets - please host class discussion re: the starter sheet questions (2 pages total) 

If time - students can continue with their 'Grammar Booklets' (to completion of end of page 5 - review answers - answer key behind teacher desk - in binder marked English 8). 

Booklets are labelled and located by the window - the did start these last day but are likely only to page 3 - they have not reviewed answer key as of yet - if time you can do so and also have students complete to page 5. Booklets to stay in the classroom. Not with students.

Library Orientation, Text Book Sign Out, Novel Sign Out, Personal Reading Sign Out

Attendance lists - in the brown binder - left hand side drawer of teacher desk. Task - Library Orientation with Mr. Wilson. Text Book Sign Out (Sightlines 8) Novel Sign Out (Outsiders), Personal Reading Novel Sign Out. Students to take 30 min or so to review library options and select a personal novel!  Personal Reading Time of Personal Novels selected.  Please hand out to each student a large post it- with lines - please let them know to add any new or different or difficult new vocab words from their novel to the post it - plus the page number they found it on.
