Fun Friday! Intro to our Field Trip - Oct 2 - Wed - 2nd half of double.

Attendance Personal Reading 15 min Field Trip Info - Wednesday Oct 2 - 2nd Block of Double Block. Wednesday Oct 2  10:30 - 11:15.  We will leave at 10:05 out the front of RSS. At break. Indigenous Education and Connection - 6 mile.  Students will need to dress for the weather and landscape - boots, jackets, warm clothes (preferably layers) and a water bottle. Grammar Booklets - complete if you have not completed Lessons 30-39.  Meet with the teacher. 

Double Block - Continue with Grammar Workbooks Lesson 35-39 & 2nd Half - Outsiders! We start reading!

Double Block. 1st Half -  Attendance. Located in the brown binder in the bottom left drawer. Please send a runner to the office with any names of absent students - sticky notes in top left drawer.  Personal Novel Read. 20 min. Students have their personal novels. Continue with Grammar Workbooks. Lessons 35-39. Grammar booklets are under the window labelled - Grade 8. Goal for remainder of first block - finish Grammar Workbooks.  All Grammar Workbooks to stay in the classroom - students not to keep them please. Please return to the window area. Labelled. If students finish early they can continue reading their personal novels.  2nd Half - last block-  Intro to Outsiders Novel - Reading and Vocab.  Reading Ch 1-2. Silent Reading of PERSONAL novels (not the Outsiders) – 15 to 20 min Check photocopying for below activity: I have already emailed your first block EA Ms. Evans the worksheet below to photocopy during Eng 11.  Next - Students - Create a Vocab List for the the Outsiders - first word below- students please copy the below definition into your new Vocab List - Outsiders. Friday Funday

Attendance: Fun Friday. No quiz today - however, we will start class with 15 min silent read of your personal novels selected last day.  Next - Time to complete any missing work from this week.  Examples: Grade 8 - Grammar workbooks pages 1-3 (students to ensure this is complete)  Grammar booklets should still be in the classroom under the window by the teacher desk - OR - students may have them with them (TTOC passed these out last day). Students - please complete group work on  NATO PHONETIC ALPHABET! - projects at the front of the room in the blue container.  If ALL work as noted above is complete students may then play a board game (from the library) with a MAX of 4 students each.  Reminder: Class ends at 3:10pm. Please ensure rolling cart is brought up the library to return board games by 3pm. Recommend sending one student. They may need to get the elevator key from the front desk. Double Block Grade 8 English Personal Novel Selection & Intro to 'The Outsiders'

Attendance.  Library etiquette review - e.g. walking up to library through main foyer of school, quietly, entering library quietly and sitting down at library tables for quick intro re: selecting personal novels. First Half Of Double Block: Library Tables Are Booked - re: student selection of personal novels. (Post library orientation last class on Tuesday). Students - please take some time - select a novel of your choice. Each student to please be provided with a large sticky note to keep in their novel (located in my desk top left drawer) to write down any new and or interesting vocab from their novels as they go. Once students have selected a novel they can sit at the tables to begin reading. Up to 10:00am prior to return to class to start break. Break 10:05-10:15 Re-take attendance start of 2nd block. Library Orientation, Text Book Sign Out, Novel Sign Out, Personal Reading Sign Out

Attendance lists - in the brown binder - left hand side drawer of teacher desk. Task - Library Orientation with Mr. Wilson. Text Book Sign Out (Sightlines 8) Novel Sign Out (Outsiders), Personal Reading Novel Sign Out. Students to take 30 min or so to review library options and select a personal novel!  Personal Reading Time of Personal Novels selected.  Please hand out to each student a large post it- with lines - please let them know to add any new or different or difficult new vocab words from their novel to the post it - plus the page number they found it on. Intro to NATO PHONETIC ALPHABET! The NATO phonetic alphabet, officially called the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet, and also commonly known as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) phonetic alphabet, is the most widely used radiotelephone spelling alphabet in the world! We use this alphabet to clarify communication for maritime operations, domestic and international flights, and NATO Alliance Military Activities. Why did you choose this superpower? What makes it special to you? How would you use this superpower in your daily life or to help others? What are some possible problems or challenges you might face with this superpower? Journal Entry: Sample. If I could have any superpower, I’d choose the ability to time travel. Imagine being able to visit any moment in history. I’d love to go back to ancient Egypt and see the pyramids being built. It would be amazing to understand how they did it without modern technology.  Time travel would also be great for fixing mistakes.
